Dessa Darling is an essayist, rapper and spoken word artist from Minneapolis, MN.  For the past 10 years Dessa has been involved in the Minneapolis hip-hop scene, a scene known for its talent  (Brother Ali, Atmosphere, Desdamona, Rhymesayers Entertainment, among others), as a member of the rap-collective Doomtree. Dessa has also released two solo projects, A Badly Broken Code and Castor, The Twin. In addition, Dessa has published a collection of essays (Spiral Bound), taught at Smith McNally College of Music, and writes for The Star Tribune.  Dessa visits UW-L to speak on the ethical relationships between art, academia, language, and class.  There will be a "Meet-and-Greet" with Dessa from 7:30-8:30 p.m., with refreshments, in the Ward Room following her talk.
