In 2013, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, through the Division of Long Term Care, the Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and the Division of Quality Assurance, is sponsoring a two-day statewide conference, “Partnerships and Protection: Opportunities and Challenges in a Multidisciplinary Approach to Adults At Risk.” The conference is designed to provide extensive training opportunities for Adult Protective Services workers and other professionals and staff who are committed to protecting Adults At Risk from abuse, neglect and financial exploitation and improving their quality of life.

Conference Workshops include:
  • Personal Safety in the Workplace
  • Sexuality & Intimacy in Long Term Care
  • APS Role in "End of Life" Decisions for People with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
  • Dementia as a Risk Factor for Elder Abuse
  • Elder Financial Exploitation: Family Secrets and Stranger Scams
  • Having Difficult Conversations and Facilitating Problem-Solving Meetings
Learning Objectives:
  • To build the knowledge and skills of those working with Adults At Risk
  • To promote the exchange of information and best practices to improve protection and services for Adults At Risk
  • To promote collaboration and partnerships between individuals, agencies, and organizations to provide the best possible outcomes for Adults At Risk
  • To support those working with Adults at Risk to maintain their sense of purpose, energy, and enthusiasm
Who Should Attend:
The conference is aimed at professionals and staff working in adult protective services, crisis and mental health, developmental disabilities, long term care facilities, ADRCs, county and tribal aging units, Independent Living Centers, managed care organizations, health care and other services, law enforcement, the court system, and advocacy for Adults At Risk.
