The Path to Redesign: Institutional Factors that Impact Redesigning Developmental to General Education Level Mathematics
Teams of administrators, staff and instructors will enjoy a unique opportunity to hear from University of Wisconsin System administrators, staff and instructors regarding the web of institutional factors that affect redesign initiatives, will learn from innovators within the UW System who have engaged in successful redesign projects and will gain the requisite knowledge needed to get started on the pathway to redesign.
The keynote presentation will be given by Kathleen Almy, Professor of Mathematics at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois. Professor Almy is not only a seasoned redesign expert but is also the co-author of a recently released book, “Math Lit: A Path to College Readiness”, a new approach that offers an accelerated pathway through developmental mathematics and prepares both STEM and non-STEM students with the foundation they need to move directly into liberal arts math or introductory statistics. Professor Almy will share her overview of the redesign process, highlight some of the lessons she has learned on her road to redesign, answer questions about how to get started redesigning and will present her redesign using the new “Math Lit” curriculum.
The conference will offer both a spring-board for institutional redesign teams to get started on the road to redesign and will provide an opportunity to network with other institutions.
